In the eleventh century Norwich was, after London, the largest city in England. Vying with Bristol, and as capital of the richest and most populous county, it maintained that status until the Industrial Revolution. As such, it became a target when inflation and inclosure led to Kett's Rebellion in 1549. With its prosperity based initially on the wool trade and the textile industry, especially after the arrival of Huguenot refugees, the city later saw the founding – and until the last few years remained the headquarters – of the Norwich Union insurance business. Industries have included brewing, publishing & printing, the shoe industry, Colman's mustard business, the manufacture of chocolate, Boulton & Paul joinery, and more recently the chemical industry. The cathedral city of Norwich is also the seat of the University of East Anglia. The city has a Tier 1 combined court centre as well as magistrates, family proceedings and coroner's courts, plus a hearing centre for Employment Tribunals (the regional office being at Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk).

From Norwich station to chambers is a 5 minute walk. From the pedestrian crossing by the river go over the bridge towards Prince of Wales Road (past The Nelson). Keeping to the left, when you reach Budgens cross at the pedestrian lights towards Kwik Fit. Turn left and take the first road on the right (St Faith's Lane). At the left hand bend in the road, just beyond the junction with Recorder Road - on the right, there is a footpath leading to the right hand side of a modern 3-storey office building (Horsefair House). Go through the gateway and then the metal kissing gate. Turn left through a gap in the high wall to your left just before reaching the end of the lane (Horsefair Loke). The front door of East Anglian Chambers is straight ahead.
From the north : When you reach the inner ring road head for the roundabout by Norwich Puppet Theatre, between Barrack Street and the flyover. Follow signs for the city centre and Law Courts and then continue along Palace Street to the Maids Head Hotel (on your right) and the mini-roundabout at the northern end of Tombland. Turn left into Tombland and, almost opposite Princes Street (on the right), take a minor road diagonally to the left - in front of some restaurants. At the end turn left, carefully, and go through the arched gateway into the Cathedral Close. Inform the gatekeeper that you are visiting East Anglian Chambers and park where directed. If you have made arrangements with us in advance to park at our premises, for example due to disability or the need to drop off a large number of documents, then proceed straight ahead and past the Lower Green (on your left). Just beyond the Lower Green no 15 The Close sits behind a low wall and hedge on the right - the third detached building in a row - with the entrance to the car park by Horsefair Loke.
From east, west and south : Follow the A47 southern bypass as far as the junction with the A146 Beccles/Lowestoft road. Head towards the city and turn right at the lights, towards County Hall. At the roundabout keep to the right hand lane and head for the city (Bracondale). Keep in the right hand lane for about 150 metres and turn down to the right at the lights, towards Carrow Road and the station. Go past the station, with the river on your left. Keep to the right hand lane and go straight across at the lights, along Riverside Road. Rising slightly towards a roundabout at the foot of Kett's Hill, turn left as far as the Puppet Theatre roundabout. Continue as above.
