Stephen Goodfellow BSc (Physiology) (Bristol)

Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence

Stephen is joint leader of the Personal Injury practice group.  Acting for both Claimants & Defendants, he manages a substantial practice which includes being instructed to advise in writing and/or in conference, to draft pleadings, and of course to provide representation at court – particularly in RTA matters.  Stephen has substantial experience of employer’s liability and is frequently instructed where issues of public liability arise. Stephen receives instructions from across East Anglia and beyond, and his flexible approach provides solicitors with a fast turnaround of paperwork.  His innovative thinking offers alternative solutions such as working at solicitors’ offices if requested. Stephen accepts and undertakes a significant amount of CFA work.  He also advises on professional negligence cases, including those concerning allegations of clinical and solicitors’ negligence.

Employment

Regularly acting for both Claimants and Respondents – ranging from individuals and small companies and organisations up to very large-scale employers – Stephen frequently advises on cases involving unfair dismissal, redundancy and breach of contact.  He regularly appears in the Employment Tribunals and County Court on employment-related matters, including complex equal pay claims, and accepts some instructions on a direct access basis.  Stephen is able to use his extensive PI experience to advise on more complicated Employers’ Liability matters.  He has previously provided voluntary assistance to Hackney Law Centre.

Land, tenancies and housing

Stephen has a highly regarded property practice and is experienced in a wide range of advisory and litigious matters, including building disputes, boundary disputes, covenants, and landlord & tenant matters for a number of local authorities such as Colchester, Harlow, Ipswich and Tendering.

Contract and Commercial

Stephen appears at both County Court and High Court level on a wide range of commercial disputes, including building disputes, with a rapid turnaround of both advisory and drafting work.  He has been involved in a broad range of cases and has extensive experience of dealing with and cross examining expert witnesses.
