Kate Miller BA (Dunelm)


Kate graduated from Durham University in 1984 and spent the next 10 years pursuing a sporting career during which she rowed and sculled at international level.  During this time she also worked as a Lloyd's insurance broker.

Since being called to the Bar Kate has rapidly built a significant practice in all aspects of Family work.  She accepts instructions from children, parents and those more distantly related to a child who subject to proceedings.  She also acts on behalf of Local Authorities, Guardians, Special Guardians and the Official Solicitor.

 

In a wide ranging public and private law practice she has experience of cases involving: domestic violence including non-accidental injury and murder, sexual abuse, neglect, drug and alcohol addiction and child abandonment.  She has acted in cases invloving intractable contact disputes and parental alienation, international relocation, reciprocal enforcement of orders, cohabitation disputes and civil partnerships.

 

She has particular interest in acting for older children who are separately represented and in advising and representing clients whose mental health difficulties mean that their capacity to provide instructions has to be assessed on an 'issue by issue' basis.

 

She has expertise in Matrimonial Finance, including farming and family company cases.  Clients will benefit from her experience and knowledge of the distribution of pension assets.

She has concern and understanding for her clients and can be relied upon to give firm and realistic advice based on thorough preparation.  In court she is forthright, tenacious and widely respected by her colleagues.

 

Kate is Public Access qualified and is happy to provide advice and/or representation in court directly to members of the public through Chambers.
